How to choose the best water heater

How to choose the best water heater.  A decision you may never have thought could be so involved!
Your options are based on your energy options at your home.  Electric, Natural/Liquid Propane gas, tank or tankless and now there’s a Hybrid option, too!
For this blog we want to focus on the hybrid option.  For those of you that have electricity as the source of power for your heater, this is a great option.
Hybrid means an electric tank water heater with a heat pump.  If your water heater is currently in your garage, this could be your best choice.  The initial investment is quickly offset by the immediate savings in your energy consumption costs; as much as 2/3 savings.  The heat pump uses the heat already existing in the garage to help heat the water and then expels cooled air during the process!  This same result can be achieved if the installation is in a utility room, as well.
Pros:
Significant reduction in energy consumption compared to electric tank water heaters
Lower utility bills
remote control & monitoring options available with some models
Cons:
High initial cost compared to typical installs
Need more space, larger diameter
If your power source is natural or LP gas, this is not likely your best option
