With the price of gas between 3 and 4 dollars per gallon we kind of loose sight of the fact that we are paying as much or more per gallon for bottled water. We should be outraged! Not only are we paying too much, but we are also contributing to major pollution from all the plastic bottles.

The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 per day; that same amount of bottled water is about $1,400. It takes 17 million barrels of oil per year to make all the plastic bottles used by the U.S. for bottling water. That’s enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year. 80% of the empty bottles end up in a landfill, even though recycling programs exist. Plastic leaches toxins into the water, which have been linked to health problems such as reproductive issues and cancer. Is the convenience of bottled water a fair trade for your health?
