It takes 17 million barrels of oil per year to make all the plastic bottles used by the U.S. for bottling water. That’s enough oil to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year. 80% of the empty bottles end up in a landfill, even though recycling programs exist. Plastic leaches toxins into the water, which have been linked to health problems such as reproductive issues and cancer. Is the convenience of bottled water a fair trade for your health?
