Your Water Heater Needs Love Too!

Most of us just take our hot water heater for granted. You turn your faucet on and mysteriously out comes hot water. water heaterThis is why over the years I have seen countless water heater failures. There are several things you can do to help maintain a healthy life of your water heater.

1) Hire a licensed plumber to help with your water heater maintenance. We can test the function of the elements and thermostats and ensure that they are working properly. Typically the bottom element will go first, the tell tale sign is running out of hot water quickly.

2) Your water heater should be flushed a minimum of once per year. This helps keep the sediment from building up and engulfing the bottom element, which is the main cause of failure. If you have a new water heater installed by us, we actually remove the drain valve that comes with the water heater and replace it with a full port ball valve for ease of sediment flushing. Draining your water heater could put you at risk of being scalded. Call a licensed plumber.

3) Your water heater is equipped with an anode rod. The anode is a sacrificial rod installed in the tank that protects against corrosion. It is recommended that this anode be checked yearly. Call a licensed plumber to help with this procedure.
